How AI Made Me a Dev

From Idea to App: How AI Turned Me Into a "Super Dev" (Without Writing a Single Line of Code)
We’ve always been told that software development is a complex saga—that it requires years of study, mastering cryptic programming languages, and investing a fortune in development teams. But lately, something has fundamentally shifted. I find myself discovering again and again that the only boundary between a "headache" in business or life and an elegant technological solution is simply our imagination.
I recently started building functional apps using AI, and it has completely changed the rules of the game for me. I’m not talking about just small "scripts," but full-scale tools that solve real pain points in my business, my military reserve service, and my personal life.
So, what does my Flow look like? (Or: How I build a product)
My process begins exactly like that of an experienced Product Manager. I don't rush to generate code; I start with deep characterization.
- The PRD (Product Requirements Document) Phase: I use ChatGPT or Gemini as thinking partners. I don't just ask them to write for me; I ask them to ask me guiding questions. What does the user need? Where is the pain? This helps me reach a precise solution before we even start building.
- Design and Construction: Once the characterization is ready, I move to Google Stitch to define the User Interface (UI) and then to Google AI Studio to build the app's foundation.
- The Data and the "Engine": For the app to actually work and store information, I connect it to a database. My preferred tools are Supabase or Firebase—they are user-friendly, fast, and interface perfectly.
- Quality Assurance: Before the app goes live, I run it through Google Antigravity. It’s an amazing tool that performs automated tests, running the app like a real user and even taking screenshots when it encounters a bug.
- Hosting: Finally, everything is uploaded to my own storage under my domain.
What have I built lately? Here are a few examples:
- Reserve Unit Synchronization: Instead of cumbersome Excel sheets and shift confusion, I built an app for my unit. It syncs everyone efficiently and allows us to communicate securely.
- The All-in-One Business Management System: As a freelancer, I built the "brain" of my business. It handles cash flow management, expense tracking, invoicing, quotes, and project management for my instructional design work. My favorite feature? A dedicated client portal where my clients can log in with a code to view documents and project status.
- Personal Financial Hub: I said goodbye to tedious Excel tables in favor of an app that tracks everything—income, categorized expenses, savings goals, and my "net worth" (including investment portfolios). It even categorizes credit card transactions automatically!
Why am I telling you this?
Because the level of development and quality achievable today with AI is simply mind-blowing. I often find myself "coding" into the night, improving features, and genuinely enjoying the creative process.
My message to you is simple: Don't be afraid to try. If you have a need in your business or life that feels clunky, there’s a good chance you’re just a few hours of work away from an app that solves it. AI isn't just a tool for writing text; it’s an entire workforce in your hands.
